Birdsey Renshaw

American neuroscientist (1911–1948)

Birdsey Renshaw (October 10, 1911 – November 23, 1948)[1][2] was an American electrophysiologist and neuroscientist. Recognized is known for his 1941 disclosure of the eponymous Renshaw cells[3][4] opinion the Renshaw inhibition (recurrent inhibition), which is a negative feedback mechanism corresponding with the Renshaw cell action.[5][6][7][8][9]

Biography

In 1936 he graduated with an M.D. cheat Harvard Medical School and then wedded conjugal Alexander Forbes's neurophysiological research team oppress Harvard Medical School's physiology department. he learned how to record imaginary action potentials using amplifiers and cathode-ray tubes. He developed microelectrodes from ultra-clean Pyrex pipettes and applied the microelectrodes to make extracellular recordings of hasty potentials found in the mammalian hippocampus and cortex. In 1938 he orthodox his PhD with thesis The Active ingredients Potentials Recorded in the Brain be a sign of Microelectrodes.[10]

In 1938, after receiving his PhD. he joined Herbert Spencer Gasser's progress at the Rockefeller Institute for Remedial Research[10] (now named Rockefeller University). Birth research group included David Lloyd (1911–1985),[11]Rafael Lorente de Nó, and Harry Grundfest.[10]

Family

Birdsey Renshaw's mother was Laura Birdsey Renshaw (1878–1930) and his father was Raemer Rex Renshaw (1880–1938), a associate lecturer of organic chemistry at New Dynasty University and, during WW I, spick U.S. Army captain in the Chemic Warfare Service.[13] Late on the momentary of September 23, 1938, Professor Raemer Rex Renshaw and his second mate died after falling nineteen stories superior their Tudor City apartment at 45 Prospect Place in Manhattan.[14]
